One week ago, on Monday evening May 7, Our Savior Lutheran church and School voted to offer a contract to Mr. David Wright to serve as our 2nd Grade Teacher. Friday morning, in my Office mailbox, a copy of an excited letter of acceptance was discovered and read.
It would seem fitting that we get to know our new 2nd Grade teacher a little better and whole-heartedly welcome David and his family into our OSL family. I've heard it said that Mr. Wright is a natural born teacher who loves Jesus as a passion. Lutheran from when he was baptized at three years old to the present day, David has shared that he has always been awed by God, His Word, and His ways. Although he had formally worked as a journeyman bricklayer and laborer foreman in commercial masonry construction, his real desire was to see children's lives affected by Jesus and built up by God's Word and God's power. As a substitute teacher at OSL, it soon became apparent that he connected well with children of all ages, but quickly became one of the favorite substitutes of the students in our Jr. High. He is incredibly personal, impassioned, and purposeful in his desire to serve the Lord in the teaching ministry.
Mr. Wright's wife, Tammie, is currently serving as one of our track coaches. She is a surgical nurse at Michigan Surgical Center, and as an avid runner, has trained for and run in three Marathons. She and David have had a long relationship, meeting in Kindergarten, and having had a "special eye" for each other already since 6th Grade.
Mr. Wright and Tammie were married in February, 1992, and their marriage has been blessed by God with three children who currently attend OSL: Kendall - 11, in 5th Grade; Connor - 7, in 2nd Grade; and Caleb - 5, in Kindergarten.
In the prayerful process of discovering our new 2nd Grade Teacher, OSL was phenomenally blessed to have no less than three qualified candidates to consider for this position. Mr. Wright will be going through the coloquy program of our LC-MS so as to become a LC-MS rostered teacher, as is our 5th Grade teacher Mr. Matt Couser. We are thankful to the Lord that at a time when so many men are not considering the teaching ministry, that two fine men will soon be added to the roster, while beginning, and continuing, their teaching ministries here at OSL.
Please join me in thanking God for leading us to Mr. Wright and also in joining to welcome him and his family to our Faculty.
